Surviving the school holidays.

If you’re anything like me, you’ll be looking at the approaching school holidays with a mix of anticipation and dread.

Six weeks without that early morning push to get everyone in the house moving at the same time, no more after school discussions about homework, no school fetes, events, parents evenings and donations – it sounds like bliss.

However, there’s also six weeks of young children needing childcare and entertainment or teenagers slothing around house creating small nests of cups and discarded plates. In the middle of it all there’s you – just trying to balance work and home life.

If you’re looking for ways to survive the summer holidays, here’s a few great ideas for you.

Story massage time with the kids

How about trying something a little different that’s fun, and helps bring some calm to you and your children – something you might be needing a couple of weeks into the summer.

Story massage combines a few gentle massage movements with story-telling, helping to bring the tale to live through rhythmic touches and pressure. It’s creative, fun – and benefits your child by calming them, reducing anxiety and stress.

You’ll learn some gentle techniques that you can take home with you – and then use to calm children after an exciting day of holiday fun, or to settle smaller ones and get them into bed.

I’ll be running a few different workshops with your children for a fabulous bonding time during the holidays. However, if you think you need to get ahead of the impending hyperactivity of your children, I’ll be running a workshop just for parents in early July.

Aroma Reflex time without the kids

If you’re looking for a little getaway from the children then try a moment just for yourself with the Aroma Balance for Women’s Health.

This particularly calming treatment involves a beautiful blend of essential oils – created specifically for you – which is massaged into your lower legs and feet to help your muscles relax.

Then I’ll follow with some light reflexology movements on your feet, helping to relieve blockages in your body, reduce tension and get rid of some of that stress.

There may not be a magic pressure point that makes teens clean up behind them, but you’ll be able to take your personalised blend of massage oil home with you. As your summer holiday tension rises, breath in your bespoke aromatherapy scent – transporting yourself back to that peaceful stolen moment.

Facials for healthy teen skin

I know, not all teens huddle into their hollows on the sofa, whip out their phones and communicate with you in grunts only. Some of them really are helpful around the house – helping you keep on top of the holiday chaos and maintain your own sanity.

If you’ve got one of these rare breeds, why not give them a little thank you for all the help. The express facial is a gentle treat that will cleanse, exfoliate and hydrate teenage skin – and make them feel a little bit pampered and appreciated at the same time.

Call it a gift – or a bribe – but we do what we must to get survive the summer holidays.
